“Hidden In Plain Sight: Dental Instruments You May Not Know Exist”
Speaker:Â Dr. Emily Boge, EdD, RDH, CDA, CDIPC
Have you ever wondered about the dental instruments available, outside of what you used in school, and how to use them? This course examines instrument design and how tooth and root morphology can influence clinical decision-making. Participants will broaden their exposure to instrumentation outside their region, state, or dental hygiene program, gaining confidence and competence in selecting appropriate instruments to support improved patient outcomes.

Upon successful completion of this course, attendees will:
- Expand diagnostic skills by utilizing advanced diagnostic instruments, enhancing participants’ ability to assess periodontal health with greater accuracy.Â
- Evaluate the specific uses, benefits, and limitations of dental instruments in a variety of patient case scenarios, improving instrument selection and clinical application.

“The Prevention Shift: Redefining Sustainable Dentistry”
Speaker: Brittany Cox, MA, RDH
We’re in the middle of a global shift toward prevention. Across medicine, nutrition, and mental health, people are demanding care that prevents illness, rather than just manages symptoms. This same shift is long overdue in dentistry. A preventive shift in dentistry means moving beyond reactive treatment and toward proactive, patient-centered protocols. This means we aren’t just catching problems early, but rather understanding root causes, guiding behavior change, and designing care plans that support health long-term. Learn how to implement early intervention periodontal and caries protocols, use motivational interviewing techniques to build patient trust and follow-through, and incorporate practical nutritional and lifestyle guidance that is all grounded in current scientific research. We’ll also explore adjunctive therapies that support biofilm control, giving you a more complete, sustainable toolkit for modern preventive care. This course will help you shift from treating disease to promoting health in a way that’s evidence-based, personalized, and sustainable.
Learning Objectives:
-Identify key risk factors and early signs of periodontal disease and caries, and apply evidence-based assessment protocols to create proactive treatment plans.
-Demonstrate the use of motivational interviewing techniques to uncover patient barriers and support sustainable behavior change in daily oral hygiene and lifestyle habits.
-Evaluate the role of nutrition, systemic inflammation, and lifestyle in oral health, and recommend realistic, prevention-driven strategies in a clinical setting.
-Compare conventional vs. adjunctive tools and therapies for biofilm control, and select appropriate interventions based on individual patient needs.
